…A WINTRY MIX OF PRECIPITATION IS EXPECTED EARLY MORNING SATURDAY THROUGH SUNDAY MORNING…
THE LATEST FORECASTS CONTINUE TO INDICATE THAT A SIGNIFICANT WINTER STORM WILL LIKELY IMPACT THE REGION THIS WEEKEND. AN AREA OF SURFACE LOW PRESSURE IS FORECAST TO MOVE ACROSS SOUTHERN KENTUCKY ON SATURDAY AND WILL LIKELY BRING A WINTRY MIX OF WEATHER TO THE REGION.
FOR AREAS BETWEEN THE OHIO RIVER AND BLUEGRASS AND WESTERN KENTUCKY PARKWAYS…PRECIPITATION WILL DEVELOP ACROSS THE REGION LATE FRIDAY NIGHT AND WILL LIKELY BE IN THE FORM OF SNOW. SOME ACCUMULATION OF SNOW WILL BE POSSIBLE THROUGH MID MORNING SATURDAY. AS THE STORM INTENSIFIES ON SATURDAY…WARMER AIR WILL BE DRAWN NORTHWARD AND COMPLETE CHANGE OVER TO PLAIN RAIN IS EXPECTED. RAIN IS FORECAST TO PERSIST THROUGH THE AFTERNOON ON SATURDAY. THE RAIN MAY BE HEAVY AT TIMES.
BY SATURDAY NIGHT…COLD AIR WILL QUICKLY RETURN TO THE REGION AND THE RAIN WILL QUICKLY CHANGE BACK OVER TO SNOW. THE SNOW MAY BE HEAVY AT TIMES SATURDAY NIGHT INTO SUNDAY MORNING. AT THIS TIME…IT APPEARS THAT ONE TO THREE INCHES OF SNOW ACCUMULATION WILL BE POSSIBLE BY SUNDAY AFTERNOON.
THERE IS STILL A LARGE AMOUNT OF UNCERTAINTY WITH RESPECT TO THE TRACK OF THIS STORM SYSTEM. SHOULD THE STORM SYSTEM SHIFT FURTHER SOUTH…MORE SNOW WOULD BE LIKELY…WHILE A SHIFT TO THE NORTH WOULD BRING LESSER ACCUMULATIONS.
RESIDENTS OF THE REGION AND ANYONE WITH TRAVEL PLANS THIS WEEKEND SHOULD KEEP ABREAST OF THE LATEST FORECASTS FROM THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE.
