A FRONT WILL APPROACH THE REGION FROM THE WEST. AHEAD OF THIS FRONT...EXPECT INCREASING CLOUDS THROUGH THE DAY THURSDAY. PRECIPITATION WILL START TO FALL LATE IN THE AFTERNOON WEST OF THE INTERSTATE 65 CORRIDOR. THIS PRECIPITATION LOOKS TO START AS A MIXTURE OF SLEET AND LIGHT SNOW. AS THE EVENING GOES ON...WARMER AIR WILL MOVE OVER THE REGION...ALLOWING A TRANSITION TO MORE OF A RAIN AND FREEZING RAIN MIX. WELL BEFORE DAYBREAK...ENOUGH WARM AIR SHOULD BE OVER THE REGION TO CHANGE ALL OF THE PRECIPITATION TO RAIN. AT THIS TIME IT LOOKS LIKE THE BEST CHANCE FOR ACCUMULATIONS OF SLEET AND SNOW WOULD BE OVER SOUTHERN INDIANA WEST OF THE I-65 CORRIDOR FROM LATE AFTERNOON TO EARLY EVENING. AS THE EVENING GOES ON...THE THREAT FOR HAZARDOUS WINTER WEATHER LOOKS TO SHIFT EASTWARD...AS THE FREEZING RAIN BECOMES THE PREDOMINANT WEATHER TYPE. FROM LATE THURSDAY EVENING TO EARLY FRIDAY MORNING...THE BEST CHANCE FOR ICE ACCUMULATIONS WILL RUN ACROSS SOUTHERN INDIANA AND NORTH CENTRAL KENTUCKY GENERALLY EAST OF THE I-65 CORRIDOR AND NORTH OF THE I-64 CORRIDOR. ACCUMULATIONS COULD RUN AROUND A TENTH OF AN INCH...AND BRIEFLY CAUSE HAZARDOUS TRAVEL CONDITIONS. ANY ACCUMULATIONS THAT OCCUR LIKELY WILL NOT REMAIN AROUND FOR LONG...AS WARM AIR WILL CONTINUE TO POUR INTO THE REGION. ANY IMPACTS FROM FROZEN PRECIPITATION SHOULD BE MITIGATED BY DAYBREAK FRIDAY. $$ RJS/KJD |
