home invasion/gun rights… the continuing saga…

…if you somehow missed my earlier posts, I commented on a link to a story about a home invasion that took place earlier this morning. This comment developed further into a mild argument on gun rights–which is not where I wanted to go…

…but now, since more information has been released–and by a better reporting agency, I might add–I’ll share, quickly, my “gun-rights” opinion and links to the stories.

Guns can equal protection; they can also do more harm. In this case, we have learned that the homeowner got gung-ho and opened fire upon the suspect; unsurprisingly, the suspect returned fire–possibly with the homeowner’s gun! (so, um, it is possible that the homeowner–in being a gun-nut–armed an unarmed robber!) This, my friends, is why I argue against those who say that we should all arm ourselves…

…if we do, we’re simply expanding the risks and adding to the problem.

[…but let me make this clear… I am NOT anti-gun. I am anti-stupid. Don’t get this false sense of security by having lead in your hands; and don’t tell me that you need military grade weapons to shoot squirrels…]

Anyway, linkies!
