YONKERS, N.Y. — Police say four teenagers have been arrested in a bizarre assault and robbery that began with one of them dancing in his underwear behind a Yonkers fast-food restaurant counter while another videotaped him.

Since December of this past year, an email and MySpace bulletin has been floating around, telling the tale of London Marie Sherwood, an infant who died in the hospital after having fallen victim to abuse. While it is sad to hear of a child or any living creature meeting such a fate, the email paints the mother as a victim as well, and makes us wish to feel sympathy for her as well. I almost felt sorry for the mother. Almost.
Having received the story through MySpace, which is notorious for spreading rumors amongst the naive and gullible, I set out to find any facts on the case that I could. While some information is unclear and unavailable in doing a simple Internet search, and even a database search, bits and pieces are available.
Approximately three weeks before the childs death, Jessica Sherwood, age 20, visited Joshua Schaak, 22, at his home, and handed their daughter over to him, and left, not to return into the picture until the day she pulled London from life-support. Joshua was informed by his family, with whom he was living with, that the child was his responsibility, and that none of them would assist in the care for London. Joshua cared for the child without assistance from anyone, not even his most recent girlfriend. It has been reported that Joshua had gotten aggravated with the child on December 2, 2007, and had shaken the child, and caused London’s head to strike a wall and bathtub. From the information I have found, it remain unclear as to how London sustained other injuries, which possibly pre-date Joshua’s care.
Jessica has not been named as a perpetrator of any abuse toward London, though she remains in court–she made an appearance today, coincidently. One blogger who has been following the story reports that Jessica was present for a plea hearing in reference to a charge filed against her in November. Details of that charge are limited to the description of a Class-B Felony. The ADA asked for the court to reschedule the plea hearing to another date, which coincides with another hearing against Jessica–charges of possession and paraphernalia–which is scheduled for April 11th. I must agree with that blogger in saying that, while we may not know if Jessica had any involvement in prior abuse, we are now seeing information which isn’t painting Jessica in any brighter shades.
I am saddened to hear that a child died at the hands of a “parent,” but I’m not going to weep for Jessica, even though she and others have attempted to portray her as a victim.

Kentucky House Bill 367, a bill which will make it illegal for sex offenders to access social networking sites frequented by minors, has passed through the Senate Judiciary Committee and is on it’s way to the full Senate.
The legislation will require sex offenders to register their email addresses and update any changes similarly to the process of informing the authorities of physical address changes. Any email addresses and online profiles of sex offenders will be contained in a publicly available database.

I’ve been having a bit of fun over the past few weeks. One of the biggest things I’ve been doing is helping out Diana’s sister.
Angela has finally left her abusive boyfriend of three years, and is looking to try and straighten out her life. Both Diana and I feel that Angela is committed to it this time, so I’ve been helping her when she’s needed someone, since Diana’s at work during the day. While I haven’t minded offering my assistance, it has taken away from some of my normal activities, and left me to fall behind a tad in housework. I had been intending to do a nice round of cleaning last week during the break, but was unable to do so. I’m hoping to make up for it over the weekend.
I had also been experiencing a few interesting glitches with my computer, so I backed up everything I had and started back from scratch with a clean install of Vista, and have been fighting to get things back to a normal state over the last week and a half. I’m still not sure what was causing my problems, and really wish I could figure it out. The issue I had been having was having various programs trying to access the ‘net on odd ports. Stranger still, was that these programs were trying to access sites which they had no real relation to. I think that iTunes may have influenced the behavior somehow, for that was the last program I had installed/updated before the oddities started occurring. Also, the ports trying to be accessed were multicast related, which is what the included Bonjour service was wanting to toy with. I dunno. Weirdness. Since then, I have re-installed iTunes, but disabled Bonjour. No problems as of yet.
I did manage to start toying around with one project over this past weekend. I pieced an old tower back together (the Dell if anyone’s keeping track) and installed Win2k on it. I have it hooked up to the router and have it acting as a web-server/media recorder/back-up server. I’ve been using it to record streaming media for playback at a later time, and I’m hoping to set the notebooks up to do automated backups to it every so often. I don’t wanna go through the hassle of losing data again. The web-server part is mainly something for me to tinker with. I don’t plan on actually allowing the thing to be online serving up a site, though that would be interesting. I don’t think Southeast would allow me to have that traffic anyway. Out of curiosity I tried to see about accessing the computer over the ‘net, but I get hit with the login prompt for the modem. I’ve thought about calling them for the login info (they flashed it with different firmware, so the defaults don’t apply–I tried to reset the thing, but it doesn’t seem to want to), but haven’t.
I started back to class this past Monday–I’ve got two classes on campus, and one online. Monday night was accounting, Tuesday was OS troubleshooting. Didn’t really manage to do much in either on those first nights.
I can’t wait to get things sorted back out, and get back to my regular routine. I’ve been so out of the loop. I have no clue as to what’s going on anywhere.
Well, I haven’t much time left before I go out to get Angela’s kid. Oh, yeah–I’m baby-sitting. Tonight’s the first night, and then there’s a repeat tomorrow. Don’t know about next week. It’s only temporary, and it’s not interfering with my schoolwork. She’s in the process of getting assistance with childcare, but until then I agreed to help. Yep. I’m a sucker.
According to The Cynthiana Democrat, The Cynthiana Police Department received the alarm notification at 9:33am, and were dispatched to the crime scene.
At the time of the Democrat’s report, the suspect had yet to be located.
The suspect was described to be wearing a black hoodie and ski mask. The suspect was last seen fleeing the area on foot, running south on Walnut Street.
This robbery is Harrison Deposit’s first within recent history, and the third bank robbery in Harrison County within the past twelve months. The two most recent robberies affected two Farmers National Bank locations.

Rick’s guest was Harrison County Sheriff Bruce Hampton.
Comment was made of the FEMA trailers neighboring the Sheriff’s Office.
Rick asked Hampton to speak a bit more on the burglaries that took place this past Sunday on Old Lair Road. Sheriff Hampton explained that when Kevin Landrum came home, he wasn’t aware that his home was being burglarized. Mr. Landrum proceeded to his bedroom, when he found the suspect, Thomas Perysian, climbing in through a window. On a related note, Rick asked Sheriff Hampton about a service that the Sheriff’s Department will be offering citizens, with regard of “digitally recording” property. Sheriff Hampton explained that work on the effort has been slowed due to the office being busy with recent activities. Hampton also announced to the public that his office is currently short one deputy; Deputy Wayne Fryman is currently on medical leave for recovery from heart surgery.
Rick asked Hampton how he has been able to keep the office staffed with local personnel, noting that he had noticed that the Cynthiana Police Department has numerous new faces, many of which from out of town. Hampton said that he was simply lucky.
A story covered by local television raised a question on the differences between area departments. Early this morning in Lexington, cattle were found loose in the area of The Red Mile. When one cow became aggressive and butted an officer, assisting officers fired and killed the animal. Rick asked Hampton if that sort of incident has ever happened to him. Hampton explained that it’s a fairly common occurrence in Harrison County for the Sheriff’s Department to respond to a call of loose livestock. While Hampton could not recall any incident of killing a charging cow, he states that often they have been faced with having to put down an animal which has been struck by a vehicle.
Rick asked whether there have been any leads in the robbery of the Oddville Avenue branch of Farmers National Bank. Sheriff Hampton said that there is a lead that is being followed. He further alluded to there being DNA evidence recovered, which is being processed against evidence in other cases.
Rick mentioned Sheriff Hampton’s return to the board of the Kentucky Sheriff’s Association. Hampton had previously served as president of the association, and currently serves as third vice-president.
Discussion was made on Hampton’s involvement with the security at the Justice Center. Hampton explained that the Harrison County Sheriff’s Department has six officers which perform security duties at the Justice Center, and that he feels that there is a need for an additional officer. Rick poised the question if any of the bailiffs have faced anything similar to the event that happened in Scott County, referring to the incident where Peter Hafer punched his lawyer in court.
Further discussion went to the topics of property taxes, conceal and carry licenses, the department’s hazardous retirement benefits, and a bill which would modify the laws regarding incarceration alternatives [SB 72].
