I really wouldn’t say that the weather has been unusual as of late, but it definitely has been a little different than what some of our recent years have delivered in the same period–at least from what I recall, which may be incorrect.

Just because I feel like it’s noteworthy, here’s a couple graphics from the NWS, mainly for my reflection in the future–I do come back from time to time to look at weather events I’ve noted.

STORM WARNING FOR HEAVY SNOW...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 1 PM EST
/NOON CST/ WEDNESDAY TO 1 PM EST /NOON CST/ THURSDAY. THE WINTER
STORM WATCH IS NO LONGER IN EFFECT.

* TIMING: RAIN CHANGES TO SNOW WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON...BECOMING
  HEAVY AT TIMES WEDNESDAY EVENING AND NIGHT. SNOW ENDS THURSDAY
  MORNING.

* ACCUMULATIONS: 8 TO 12 INCHES OF SNOW ACROSS CENTRAL AND NORTH
  CENTRAL KENTUCKY. 5 TO 10 INCHES ACROSS SOUTHERN INDIANA AND
  ALSO SOUTHERN KENTUCKY. LOCALIZED HIGHER AMOUNTS POSSIBLE.

* MAIN IMPACT: MAJOR TRAVEL DISRUPTIONS WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON
  THROUGH THURSDAY MORNING. PLAN ON SNOW COVERED ROADS AND
  DANGEROUS TRAVEL CONDITIONS. SNOW RATES MAY BE
  INTENSE...RESULTING IN RAPID ACCUMULATIONS.

* OTHER IMPACTS: NORTH WINDS GUSTING UP TO 20 MPH WEDNESDAY

* Flood Warning for
  the South Fork Licking River at Cynthiana.
* from Wednesday evening to Thursday evening.
* At 12:30 PM Tuesday the stage was 8.8 feet.
* Flood stage is 20.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is forecast.
* Forecast...Rise above flood stage by Wednesday late evening and
  continue to rise to near 21.6 feet by Thursday morning. The river
  will fall below flood stage by Thursday early afternoon.
* Impact...At 22.0 feet...Poplar Street is closed. Some homes on west
  side are evacuated.
* Flood History...This crest compares to a previous crest of 21.9
  feet on May 4 2010.
