Possible winter weather event this weekend…
It might be a good idea for all of us in the central Kentucky area to start watching the weather forecasts, and preparing for some fun conditions this weekend. WKYT’s Chris Bailey writes:
The GFS raw numbers for Sunday give Lexington a high of 33… Covington 28… Ashland 34 and Jackson 36. All locations start out as snow… go to sleet and freezing rain and a touch of rain for all areas except Covington then back to snow Sunday Night. Snow showers and squalls then would continue early next week as arctic air moves into the state. Regardless of what this low does in terms of snow for us… I am excited for next week and the potential for several snow producing clippers to drop in.
Now, before anyone attacks me for posting bad info, or attacks the poor weatherman for forecasting an event which may/may not take place, please read this disclaimer:
Now… as always… I want to get one point across. I AM BREAKING DOWN A MODEL AND THIS IS NOT A SPECIFIC FORECAST! It is waaaaaaay to early to get specific on a situation like this.
One thing is certain, though — it’ll be cold and wet.
So, regardless of whether we are slammed with anything, it’d still be a good idea to go ahead and prepare. Keep your vehicle’s gas tank full, throw a few blankets in the car, make sure you have your bread and milk at home, and go ahead and dig that shovel and salt out of the corner of the garage.
…and now, for the shameless plug. Over at the EMA site, HarrisonEMA.com, I have a few tips on winter weather preparedness. FEMA also has some nice information, as does the National Weather Service.

Cohen, EP and show-runner for Futurama, about the release of the new DVD, “Futurama: Bender’s Big Score,” as well as the return of his show to TV. The interview was posted to TV Squad this morning. In it, Cohen talks about how the movies will be split up into episodes, some of the inside references that they inserted for the die-hards, and a quick preview of what the second Futurama movie is going to be about.”

Donald Richie shares his feelings on community development and support:
The economy needs everyone’s participation to thrive and grow
| We need more people supporting local ventures. That Wal-Mart Supercenter on 27 South isn’t the enemy. No, the enemy is spending habits and a lack of vision on the part of local merchants.

UN Says Tasers Are a Form of Torture
The use of Tasers “causes acute pain, constituting a form of torture,” the UN’s Committee Against Torture said. “In certain cases, they can even cause death, as has been shown by reliable studies and recent real-life events.” Three men — all in their early 20s — died from after tasering in the United States this week, days after a Polish man died at Vancouver airport after being tasered by Canadian police. There have been 17 deaths in Canada following the use of Tasers since they were approved for use, and 275 deaths in the US. “According to Amnesty International, coroners have listed the Taser jolt as a contributing factor in more than 30 of those deaths.”

Sex said forced on jailed Brazil girl (Peter Muello – Associated Press)
RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil – A teenage girl was locked up on theft charges in an Amazon jail for weeks with 21 men who she said would only let her eat in return for sex, according to authorities, setting off a national scandal over the treatment of women by Brazil’s justice system.
The 15-year-old said she was required to have sex with at least two inmates, police spokesman Walrimar Santos said by telephone Thursday from Belem, at the mouth of the Amazon River, where the victim was transferred after nearly a month living with male inmates.
By her account, officials did nothing — until the story erupted in the national media and outraged Brazilians demanded her transfer.
